    Game: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
    Technique: 'Perfect Shield'

Perfect Shielding is when one activates a shield at the exact moment an incoming attack would have connected. When performed your character takes no damage and may immediately perform a counterattack while the attacker is momentarily incapacitated. Perfect Shielding is similar to a parry in traditional fighting games, as it results in little to no knockback and freezes the opponent for two frames. In certain situations this technique is better than a dodge since it keeps your opponent in front of you and leaves them more vulnerable to an attack.

To pull off a Perfect Shield quickly and fully press the shield button two frames before an attack connects (this goes for projectile attacks as well). If done correctly your shield will give off a distinctive flash, and a "dink" sound --similar to the sound Link’s shield block makes-- will instantly follow.
